Who We Help

La's Story

When La was born in a very rural area of Laos with two club feet, her parents didn't know where to turn for help.  Then they heard about COPE, our partner organisation, who would be able to give assistance for free.  Imagine La's parents' delight when they found out that her condition was correctable.

Using the Ponseti method, which involves placing a series of castings on the foot to slowly change the angle, La was eventually able to walk unassisted for the first time.

David's Story

David is 11 years old and lives in a small remote village in Zambia with his family. When he was 7, David fell ill with a high fever. Following a slow recovery, he was unable to walk or even crawl and had difficulty communicating. As his school was over 5 kilometers away, David was unable to get there and he became isolated and lonely.

With Power's support, and with the help of his family and friends, a plan was made to get David back to school, getting him back into the community where he belongs.

Kashweka's Story

This is Kashweka Kashweka who lives with her parents in Zambia.  When Kashweka received her wheelchair through Power's DEAR Project, her mother said:

"Kashweka used to spend most of her time sleeping but with this wheelchair I will be pushing her to mix with other children at school.  Although she cannot play around she will be happy to see other children around her.  I am a very happy mother because the burden of carrying her on my back has been reduced."
