About Us

Our Vision

A world in which people disadvantaged by disability and poverty are able to exercise their full human rights and participate equally in the economic and social life of their communities and achieve their maximum potential.

What we do

Power International advances the well-being of people with disabilities in Africa and Asia. We do this through the development of programmes and partnerships with local representative disability organisations. We provide strategic planning and support, governance and oversight and, technical assistance and programme guidance.

Our programmes have an impact on:

  • disabled women, men and children, and their families;
  • our partners who are the organisations who represent people with disabilities.
  • Governments, policy makers, key stakeholders, and society in the countries we work and whom we aim to influence

Built into Power’s work is recognition that HIV/Aids is a disability issue from the point at which the patient enters the ill-phase of the disease and develops an infection or impairment which prevents his/her normal functioning.

Our history and where we work

Power International began its work in 1995 in Mozambique and the Lao PDR when the focus was to develop nationwide prosthetic and orthotic services initially for landmine victims. Our work in these countries quickly evolved to support disability movements to represent and act for their members and to advance and defend the human rights of people with disabilities.

Power now works directly in five countries across Africa and Asia: Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and the Lao PDR. We are currently launching a new partnership and programme in Lesotho. Our medium-term strategy is to extend into other SADC countries as well as to develop and extend out work in Asia.

Power International offices are located in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, UK.
